(Friday, November 10, 1944, 9:00 a.m. EWT; during the 1944 presidential campaign) — U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who won an unprecedented fourth term of office three days ago, returned victoriously to Washington today to be greeted by an enthusiastic crowd of many thousands which stood in the pouring rain for at least a half hour to welcome home “the Chief.”
