The Beatles begin filming Buckingham Palace scenes for ‘Help!’ film 50 years ago today (May 10 1965)

(Monday, May 10, 1965) — The Beatles today began a two-day shoot at Cliveden House, a 19th century stately home in Maidenhead, Berkshire, for the Buckingham Palace scenes in the group’s second feature film Help!.

A number of scenes were filmed on this and the following day, including one in which The Beatles are playing cards, another leaning out of a window to see the effects of poison gas and the intermission, which was filmed in Bluebell Woods in the grounds of Cliveden.
