(Tuesday, October 8, 1985, at about 3:00 p.m. EEST) — The hijackers of the Italian cruise ship Achille Lauro today killed passenger Leon Klinghoffer, a retired, wheelchair-bound Jewish American businessman, shooting him in the forehead and chest, then forcing the ship’s barber and a waiter to throw his body and wheelchair overboard.
