(Saturday, July 3, 1976, 11:00 p.m. IST) — Israeli commandos tonight raided Entebbe airport in Uganda, rescuing 102 of 106 passengers and crew of an Air France jetliner seized June 27, 1976, by pro-Palestinian hijackers.

Yonatan Netanyahu, an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) officer who commanded the elite commando unit Sayeret Matkal during the operation, three hostages, all seven hijackers and 45 Ugandan soldiers were killed.

A fourth hostage, who had been hospitalized at the time of the raid, was killed at a later date in retaliation.
