(Sunday, December 7, 1941, 8:10 a.m. in Honolulu/1:40 p.m. in Washington/Monday, December 8, 1941, 3:35 a.m. in Tokyo; during the Attack on Pearl Harbor, part of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of World War II) — Japanese bombers strike the USS Oklahoma with three rapid torpedoes, raising the ship out of the water and capsizing it in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. 429 people are killed and more than 30 sailors are trapped inside for some 36 hours.
