(Tuesday, October 14, 1997, 7:30 p.m. BST) — Paul McCartney’s new classical piece Standing Stone premiered tonight at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The 75-minute composition, described by McCartney as a symphonic poem, was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Lawrence Foster.

Hours before the premiere, McCartney held a news conference.
