Rock star Brian Jones avoids jail for drug convictions 60 years ago #OnThisDay #OTD (Dec 12 1967)

(Tuesday, December 12, 1967) — Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones successfully appealed his Oct. 30, 1967, nine-month jail sentence for a drug conviction today and instead was fined £1,000, put on three years’ probation and ordered to seek professional help.

Jones was the third member of the rock band to get into trouble over drugs. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were convicted June 29, 1967, on various drug charges and sentenced to prison. A month later, the appeals court overturned Richards’ conviction and Jagger’s sentence was reduced to a conditional discharge.
