(Sunday, December 23, 1951) — The African Queen, an adventure drama film adapted from the 1935 novel of the same name by C. S. Forester, opened today in Los Angeles, in order to qualify for the 1951 Oscars.
The film, directed by John Huston, stars Humphrey Bogart (who won the Academy Award for Best Actor – his only Oscar), and Katharine Hepburn with Robert Morley, Peter Bull, Walter Gotell, Richard Marner and Theodore Bikel.

(Tuesday, December 18, 1951) — In a big step toward resolving difficilites over an armistice in the Korean War, the communists today turned over a list of 11,559 prisoners, 3,198 of them Americans, far short of United Nations estimates of 100,000 or more missing. The UN command handed the communists a list of 132,474 Chinese and North Korean prisoners.
