(Friday, August 13, 1982) — Fast Times at Ridgemont High, a coming-of-age teen comedy film written by Cameron Crowe, who went undercover at Clairemont High School in San Diego, California, and wrote about his experiences, opened today in the U.S.

Directed by Amy Heckerling, the film stars Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Phoebe Cates, Brian Backer, Robert Romanus, Ray Walston, Forest Whitaker, Nicolas Cage and Anthony Edwards.

(Thursday, August 13, 1942) — Bambi, an animated film about a young deer growing up in the wild after his mother is shot by hunters, premiered in the U.S. today at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, five days after its world premiere in London.

Directed by David Hand, the fifth film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series stars Bobby Stewart, Donnie Dunagan and Hardie Albright.
