(Tuesday, February 8, 1983) — Karen Carpenter, the singing half of the popular 1970s brother-and-sister musical duo The Carpenters, was buried today following a funeral at United Methodist Church in Downey, California, that drew thousands of fans as well as family, friends and fellow musicians.

The singer was found dead Feb. 4, 1983, of cardiac arrest at age 32 in her parents’ home in Downey.
