(Sunday, August 29, 1943; during the Occupation of Denmark, part of World War II) — When German occupational forces today dissolved the government of Denmark, which had refused to respond to a wave of strikes and disturbances, dockworkers at Copenhagen scuttled at least twenty Danish navy warships to keep them from falling into enemy hands.
