(Friday, November 22, 1963, 1:00 p.m. CST) — U.S. President John F. Kennedy was pronounced dead this hour by doctors at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, after being shot twice by a sniper while riding in a motorcade through nearby Dealey Plaza.
The public announcement would be delayed until after Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson, who was riding in a few cars back of the president in the Kennedy motorcade and is now constitutionally the 36th President of the United States, left the hospital and arrived on Air Force One at Love Field to take the presidential oath of office.
