Johnson left Parkland Hospital for Air Force One at Love Field to take the oath of office as the 36th President upon the death of President John F. Kennedy and to return to Washington D.C. The announcement of Kennedy’s had been withheld from the public until after Johnson’s departure from Parkland for security reasons.
