Cairo Conference participants discuss fate of Asia, pose for cameras 70 years ago today (1943)

(Thursday, November 25, 1943; during World War II) — Participants of the Cairo Conference, underway since Nov. 22, 1943, at a residence of the American Ambassador to Egypt, Alexander Kirk, near the Pyramids, posed today for journalists.

The meeting, which outlined the Allied position against Japan during World War II and made decisions about postwar Asia, was attended by President of the United States Franklin Roosevelt, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Winston Churchill, and Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek of the Republic of China.

The Cairo Conference concluded the following day on Nov. 26, 1943. Two days later Stalin met with Roosevelt and Churchill in Tehran, Iran for the Tehran Conference.
