(Wednesday, August 22, 1984) — President Ronald Reagan was unanimously nominated for a second term in Dallas tonight in an action that touched off the first sustained, deeply enthusiastic demonstrations of the 1984 Republican National Convention (click here for video of today’s convention).

In a single roll-call vote, the delegates also nominated Vice President George H.W. Bush for re-election, with non-candidates Rep. Jack Kemp of New York and former British Ambassador Anne Armstrong each receiving one vote.

The Reagan-Bush ticket would oppose the Democratic ticket of former Vice President Walter Mondale-Rep. Geraldine Ferraro (nominated in July 1984) in the 1984 general election.
