(Friday, November 2, 1984)The Killing Fields, a British drama film about an American journalist and his Cambodian adviser who fight to survive the country’s communist takeover, opened today at the Cinema 1 in New York City.

Directed by Roland Joffé, the film starred Sam Waterston, Haing S. Ngor, Craig T. Nelson, John Malkovich and Athol Fugard.

Senator Johnson re-elected in landslide in midterm elections 60 years ago today (Nov 2 1954)

(Tuesday, November 2, 1954) — Democratic leader Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas was elected to a second term in the Senate today over Republican Carlos G. Watson 84.6% to 14.9%.
