(Sunday, September 12, 1965, 10:00 p.m. EDT) — Hallmark Hall of Fame dominated the 17th Emmy Awards tonight, winning three awards, including Outstanding Program Achievements in Entertainment.
The Dick Van Dyke Show won two awards, including Outstanding Program Achievements in Entertainment.
The structure of the ceremony was a complete departure from previous years. Categories were streamlined so that there were only four major categories (the previous year had 20 major categories). As a result of this, only five shows won an award.
Ceremonies at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and the New York Hilton Hotel with Danny Thomas and (in Los Angeles) Sammy Davis, Jr. (in New York) serving as hosts.
