(Tuesday, February 25, 1986, 9:05 p.m. PHT; during the People Power Revolution) — Ferdinand Marcos, facing pressure from all sides to give up his rule of the Philippines, left the presidential palace in Manila tonight and traveled by helicopter to Clark Air Base where, accompanied by his wife, Imelda, he boarded an American Air Force flight for Guam (and then onto Honolulu), ending 20 years as president.
Corazon C. Aquino succeeded him, saying “a new life” had begun for her country.
