(Wednesday, March 6, 1946; during War in Vietnam (1945–46)) — Ho Chi Minh signed the Ho–Sainteny agreement today with France which recognized Vietnam as an autonomous state in the Indochinese Federation and the French Union and permitted France to continue stationing troops in North Vietnam until 1951.

The priority for Ho at this time was the removal of 150,000 Chinese Nationalists who had been occupying (and looting) northern Vietnam since the end of World War II and was threatening to stay indefinitely.
