(Monday, March 24, 1986, 6:00-9:02 p.m. PST) — Out of Africa, an epic romantic drama film about a woman trapped in a loveless marriage who finds happiness with an adventurer, won seven Oscars tonight at the 58th Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Sydney Pollack for Best Director.
William Hurt won Best Actor for Kiss of the Spider Woman and Geraldine Page won Best Actress for The Trip to Bountiful.
The ceremonies were held at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles with Alan Alda, Jane Fonda and Robin Williams acting as co-hosts.
