Video: '1976 Jimmy Carter Democratic Convention Acceptance Speech' (July 15, 1976)

(Thursday, July 15, 1976, evening EDT) — Former Governor Jimmy Carter of Georgia, who easily won the nomination on the first ballot the previous night, accepted the Democratic presidential nomination tonight at the party’s convention meeting at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Carter addressed the convention after his running mate, Senator Walter Mondale of Minnesota, accepted the party’s vice presidential nomination.

The Carter-Mondale ticket would oppose the Republican ticket of President Gerald Ford and Senator Bob Dole (nominated in Aug. 1976) in the United States presidential election, 1976.
