(Wednesday, January 4, 1967) — The Doors, the self-titled debut album by the American rock band the Doors featuring their breakthrough hit “Light My Fire” and the lengthy song “The End” with its Oedipal spoken word section, was released today along with their debut single “Break On Through (To the Other Side)”/”End of the Night.”

In 2012, “The Doors” was ranked number 42 in Rolling Stone magazine’s “500 greatest albums of all time.”
