(Monday, January 21, 1957, 12:22 p.m. EST) — President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 66, was publicly inaugurated today for a second term of office on the East Portico of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., with Chief Justice Earl Warren administering oath of office.

The public ceremony was delayed until today because the traditional inauguration day of January 20 had fallen on a Sunday. Eisenhower and Vice President Richard Nixon, 34, were privately sworn-in the day before in the White House East Room.

Eisenhower and Nixon, Republicans, had defeated the Democratic ticket of Adlai Stevenson-Estes Kefauver in the November 1956 general election.
