(Friday, February 4, 1977, 5:25 p.m. CST) — Eleven people were killed this afternoon when an elevated train crowded with homeward-bound passengers bounced off the back of a train ahead of it at one of the busiest intersections in Chicago’s Loop, hurling two of its first four cars to the street about 20 feet below and leaving two others dangling from the tracks.
