(Monday, April 10, 1967, 7:00 p.m.-9:31 p.m. PST) — A Man for All Seasons, a British biographical drama film about a devout scholar who gets caught in the middle of Henry VIII’s plans to break with the Catholic Church, won six Oscars tonight at the 39th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Fred Zinnemann for Best Director and Paul Scofield for Best Actor.
Elizabeth Taylor won Best Actress and Sandy Dennis won Best Supporting Actress for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Walter Matthau won Best Supporting Actor for The Fortune Cookie.
The ceremonies were held at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, California, with Bob Hope serving as host for the third consecutive year.
