Video: 'Star Wars' trailer

(Wednesday, May 25, 1977, 10:45 a.m. EDT) — Star Wars, an American epic space opera film about Luke Skywalker who joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire’s world-destroying battle-station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the evil Darth Vader, opened this morning at Loews Astor Plaza in Times Square (and across the U.S. today).

Directed by George Lucas, the film starred Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing and Alec Guinness.
