(Tuesday, June 23, 1987) — Dragnet, an American buddy cop comedy film that’s both a parody of and homage to the long-running television crime drama of the same name, premiered today at the Paramount Pacific Theater in Hollywood.

Directed by Tom Mankiewicz, the film starred Dan Aykroyd, Tom Hanks, Christopher Plummer, Harry Morgan, Alexandra Paul and Dabney Coleman.
