Video: 'That Time Jimi Hendrix Opened for The Monkees'

(Saturday, July 8, 1967, 8:00 p.m. EDT) — In one of the oddest musical pairings in rock history, the psychedelic rock band The Jimi Hendrix Experience joined The Monkees on tour tonight at The Coliseum in Jacksonville, Florida, as the opening act for made-for-television pop sensations.

Hendrix, who quickly became frustrated by the teenybopper audiences who came to see The Monkees, would drop out of the tour July 17, 1967, after only seven dates.
