(Monday, July 31, 1967) — Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones had their jail sentences reduced on appeal today by a three-member appeals tribunal led by the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, Lord Parker.

On June 29, Jagger had been sentenced three months imprisonment, and Richards to a year, after being convicted of possession of pep pills and marijuana respectively at Richards’ mansion in Redlands Road, West Wittering on the evening of Feb. 12, 1967, during a party.

Richards was not present, due to illness, but also received a suspended sentence and probation.

Later that day, Jagger was picked up by helicopter and whisked off to appear on a special edition of World In Action broadcast by Granada Television that evening.

Jagger was joined by the Times editor William Rees-Mogg and the Bishop of Woolwich Dr John Robinson to discuss the great moral and cultural divide between the generations.
