Video: 'UN Partition Plan'

(Saturday, November 29, 1947, 5:35 p.m. EST) — The United Nations General Assembly approved today a proposal to partition Palestine into two states, one Arab and the other Jewish, that are to become fully independent by Oct. 1, 1948.

33 members, including the United States, voted in favor of the resolution, 13 voted against while 10 abstained and one delegation, the Siamese, was absent.
