Video: 'The Circus' trailer

(Saturday, January 7, 1928, midnight EST) — The Circus, a silent comedy film about the ringmaster of an impoverished circus who hires Charlie Chaplin’s Little Tramp as a clown, but discovers that he can only be funny unintentionally, not on purpose, premiered this morning at Mark Strand Theater in New York City.

Written and directed by Chaplin, the film also starred Al Ernest Garcia, Merna Kennedy and Henry Bergman.
