(Monday, January 19, 1998, 10:30 a.m. CST) — Carl Perkins, the pioneering rockabilly singer, songwriter and guitarist who wrote “Blue Suede Shoes,” died this morning at Jackson-Madison County Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee, from throat cancer.
Perkins, 65, had also suffered several minor strokes the previous month.
