(Tuesday, May 14, 1968, polls closed at 10:00 p.m. EDT; during the Democratic Party presidential primaries, 1968) — Senator Robert F. Kennedy won his second presidential test tonight in the Nebraska Democratic primary, defeating Senator Eugene McCarthy by a margin of 52 to 31 percent.
It was Kennedy’s second opportunity to appear on a state primary ballot since entering the race relatively late on Mar. 16, 1968.
Vice President Hubert Humphrey’s campaign concentrated on winning the delegates in non-primary states, where party leaders controlled the delegate votes (at the time, only 14 states held presidential primaries).
