Video: 'Serial Killers 4/25 - David Berkowitz [Son of Sam]' (May 22, 1978, at 36:15)
(Monday, May 22, 1978) — David Berkowitz, the lonely postal worker who had pleaded guilty on May 8, 1978, to all six “Son of Sam” murders in a year-long reign of terror in New York City with his .44 caliber revolver, kicked and bit guards who half-dragged him into court for sentencing today, called his final victim “a whore” and told her anguished mother, “I’d kill her again.”
“You animal!” the mother shouted back. Others who had been close to Berkowitz’s victims wept and shouted in outrage.
After the uproar, sentencing was postponed to June 12, 1978, pending another psychiatric report.
