(Sunday, June 30, 1968; during recording sessions for The Beatles, also known as “The White Album”) — Paul McCartney of The Beatles produced the Lennon-McCartney compositions “Thingumybob” (the theme to a Yorkshire Television sitcom of the same name) and “Yellow Submarine” for The Black Dyke Mills Band, a brass band from Yorkshire, England, today in Saltaire near Bradford.

The recordings were released as a single Aug. 26, 1968, on The Beatles’ new label Apple Records.

On his way back to London, McCartney stopped off at the Magpie pub in Harrold, a small village in Bedfordshire, and premiered his new song “Hey Jude.”
