(Saturday, July 2, 1988) — “Dirty Diana” by Michael Jackson peaked at #1 on today’s Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for one week.
It was Jackson’s 11th of 13 number one hits on the chart (1972-1995) after reaching the top of the chart four times with the Jackson 5 (all in 1970).
It was also the fifth of five number one singles from a studio album, in this case Bad, a record that still stands today (tied with Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream in 2010).
