(Monday, July 8, 1968, afternoon BST) — Nine days prior to its world première, The Beatles (minus John Lennon) attended a press screening of the band’s Yellow Submarine film today at the 102-seat Bowater House Cinema in Knightsbridge, London.

Lennon’s absence was compensated by a cardboard version of his cartoon incarnation, which the rest of the group posed alongside for photographers.
