(Sunday, October 20, 1968) — Less than five years after the assassination of her husband, U.S. President John F. Kennedy, and four months after the assassination of her brother-in-law U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy, 39, married Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis, 62, today in a candle-lit wedding ceremony in a Greek Orthodox chapel among the cypress trees on the Greek island of Skorpios.

Kennedy’s two children, Caroline, 10, and John, 7, flanked the couple during the 30-minute ceremony , holding two slim white candles.

Kennedy was the second presidential widow to remarry (the first was Frances Cleveland in 1913).
