Video: 'John lennon & Yoko Ono - Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins' (3 videos)
(Friday, November 29, 1968) — John Lennon of The Beatles and his girlfriend, avant-garde artist Yoko Ono, released Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins, the couple’s first of three experimental albums, today in the UK through Track Records (Jan. 6, 1969, in the U.S.).
The album was the result of an all-night session of musical experimentation with Yoko in John’s home studio at Kenwood, while his now ex-wife, Cynthia Lennon, was on holiday in Greece.
Their debut recording is known not only for its avant-garde content, but also for its cover which features the couple naked.
Technically, the LP had been available since Nov. 1, 1968, but only by calling Apple, The Beatles’ company, in person at their London headquarters or by ordering a copy through the mail.
