(Monday, January 6, 1919, between 4:00 and 4:15 a.m. local time) — Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States (1901-1909) and the 25th Vice President of the United States under President William McKinley (1901), died today in his sleep at his home near Oyster Bay, New York, after a blood clot had detached from a vein and traveled to his lungs.
Roosevelt, who remains the youngest person to become POTUS at age 42 following McKinley’s assassination in September 1901, died at the age of 60, his health was broken by 1918 due to the lingering effects of malaria.
