(Monday, March 24, 1969, 11:37 p.m. Central Europe Time) — Four days after their wedding in Gibraltar, John Lennon of The Beatles and his avant-garde artist wife Yoko Ono arrived at the Amsterdam Hilton hotel tonight and worked their way through a crowd of fans, journalists and photographers to room 902 where the couple would begin a week-long bed-in for peace the following day.

The couple, who drove to Amsterdam after lunching with Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali in Paris, knew their wedding and honeymoon would receive extensive press coverage, and so decided to use the publicity to promote world peace.
