(Tuesday, May 13, 1969, 6:00 p.m. BST) — The Beatles today returned to the stairwell inside EMI House, EMI’s London headquarters in Manchester Square, site of the front-cover photo for their first British album Please Please Me, to pose for a nearly identical cover image by photographer Angus McBean for the proposed Get Back album.
The photograph was not used when that Get Back project saw eventual release in 1970 as Let It Be. But it did finally emerge in 1973 on the cover of the band’s compilation double album 1967–1970.
Another photo session at the Manchester Square offices, with John Lennon and George Harrison in darker clothes, was also held around this time, but the exact date remains unknown.
