(Sunday, May 25, 1969, 5:00 p.m. EDT) — John Lennon of The Beatles and his wife, Yoko Ono, and Ono’s daughter, Kyoko, flew from Freeport in the Bahamas to Toronto today as they searched for a suitable place to hold their second bed-in for peace.

The bed-in was planned to take place in New York, but Lennon was not allowed into the U.S. because of his 1968 cannabis conviction.

Instead, the couple flew from London to the Bahamas on May 24, 1969, but after spending a night at the Sheraton Oceanus Hotel in Freeport, they realized that the Bahamas were further from the United States than they thought, so a bed-in probably wouldn’t attract as much publicity as they were hoping for.

Furthermore, the prospect of spending a week in bed in the sweltering heat was far from ideal.

Despite being held at Toronto airport for over two hours by immigration authorities, they were eventually allowed to enter the country. They spent the night at the King Edward Sheraton Hotel, Toronto, and the following day flew to Montreal to begin the bed-in.
