(Wednesday, July 5, 1989, 9:30-10:00 p.m. EDT) — Seinfeld, widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential sitcoms of all-time, debuted tonight on NBC as The Seinfeld Chronicles.

Created by Larry David and Seinfeld, the series was about a fictionalized version of Seinfeld, his friends and acquaintances, set predominantly in an apartment building in Manhattan’s Upper West Side in New York City.

The series starred Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, Julia Louis-Dreyfus (who did not appear until the second episode, which aired May 31, 1990) and Michael Richards.
