(Sunday, August 20, 1989, at around 10:00 p.m. PDT) — Entertainment executive Jose Menendez, 45, and his wife, Kitty, 47, were shot to death tonight in their Beverly Hills mansion by their sons, Lyle, 21, and Erik, 18.

The brothers were arrested in March 1990 and alleged that they committed the murders because of years of sexual and emotional abuse that they suffered at the hands of their parents, particularly their father.

Both were convicted in a second trial and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in 1996.
