(Saturday, November 29, 1969) — The double A-sided single “Something”/“Come Together” by The Beatles peaked at #1 on today’s Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for one week.

In 2004, “Something” was ranked at number 278 on Rolling Stone‘s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

Rolling Stone ranked “Come Together” at #202 on their list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

With the initiation of the Hot 100 in 1958, A- and-B-sides of singles charted separately, as they had on the former Top 100. And indeed, prior to this week, “Come Together” had peaked at #2 and “Something” peaked at #3 as separate entries on the chart.

But starting this week, this rule was altered; if both sides received significant airplay, they were listed together.
