(Monday, January 5, 1970, noon Central European Time) — John Lennon of The Beatles and his wife, Yoko Ono, held a press conference today in Aalborg, Denmark.

The couple had flown to Aalborg in Denmark on Dec. 29, 1969, to be with Ono’s daughter Kyoko over the new year period. They stayed with Tony Cox, Ono’s second husband, and his new wife Melinde.

Lennon denied that he was in Denmark to buy 70 acres of land, although he did praise the country’s landscape and people.

Lennon, who had privately announced his intention to leave The Beatles on Sept. 20, 1969, had just missed his band’s final two group recording sessions for 24 years, held during the previous weekend in London.
