(Saturday, January 17, 1970) — “Cold Turkey” by Plastic Ono Band, a rock band formed by John Lennon of The Beatles and his wife, Yoko Ono, as a vehicle for their collaborative and solo projects, peaked at #30 on today’s Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for one week.
It was the second solo single issued by Lennon, released when he was still officially a member of the Beatles, and the first to feature a performance formally recorded in a studio.

“Cold Turkey” was also the first song Lennon wrote for which he took sole credit; his previous compositions, including his first single release, “Give Peace a Chance,” were attributed to the Lennon–McCartney partnership.
Lennon had privately informed the other members that he was quitting The Beatles on Sept. 20, 1969, and first entered the studio as a solo performer just five days later to begin recording “Cold Turkey.”
