(Friday, February 6, 1970) — The single “Instant Karma!”/“Who Has Seen The Wind?” by Lennon/Ono with The Plastic Ono Band, a rock band formed by John Lennon of The Beatles and his wife, Yoko Ono, as a vehicle for their collaborative and solo projects, was released today in the UK (Feb. 16, 1970, in the U.S.).

It was the third solo single issued by Lennon, released when he was still officially a member of the Beatles, and the second to feature a performance formally recorded in a studio.

“Instant Karma!” was also the second song Lennon wrote for which he took sole credit; his previous compositions, including his first single release, “Give Peace a Chance,” were attributed to the Lennon-(Paul) McCartney partnership.

Lennon had privately informed the other members that he was quitting The Beatles on Sept. 20, 1969, and first entered the studio as a solo performer just five days later to begin recording “Cold Turkey.”
