MacDonald claimed that a “hippie-type band of three men and a blonde girl” had invaded his apartment, knocked him unconscious and killed his family.

According to MacDonald, who had stab wounds, the blonde girl mumbled “Acid is groovy,” “Kill the pigs,” and “Hit ’em again,” then scrawled the word “pig” in blood on the headboard of his bed.

On Aug. 29, 1979, MacDonald was convicted of one count of first-degree murder in the death of Kristen and two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Colette and Kimberly after the jury deliberated for just over six hours.
